The Brief: Lose the Tub, Gain a Spa

An unused tub was eating the best real estate in the room. We converted it into a generous walk-in shower — opening up the floor, removing the bulkhead for a cleaner ceiling line, and reclaiming roughly 4 extra square feet inside the new shower footprint by adjusting the framing. The old half-wall tile and moisture-damaged drywall came out; everything went back in with new insulation, a vapor barrier, mold-resistant board and full waterproofing.

Design Strategy

01 · Open Walk-In Shower

A sliding glass enclosure with a low-profile entry replaces the tub, making a small bathroom feel twice as open while keeping the splash zone contained.

02 · Backlit Oak Warmth

An oak-look slat porcelain feature wall with a recessed warm-LED niche turns cool stone into a spa-like glow — wood warmth with the waterproof durability of porcelain.

03 · Everyday Comfort

A fold-down teak bench, a dual rain + handheld shower, a smart bidet toilet, an LED mirror and a fluted floating vanity make it a genuinely easy bathroom to live in.

04 · Built Watertight

Sub-Guard boards, liquid membrane and MAPEI tape across the whole wet zone over a pre-made waterproof base and linear drain — the part you never see, done right.

Signature Detail

The Backlit Oak-Look Slat Wall

Running floor-to-ceiling beside the shower, the reeded oak-look porcelain slats break up the dark stone and add real texture — with none of the maintenance of real wood in a wet zone. A recessed warm-LED niche throws an amber glow across the grooves: soft enough to shower by, striking enough to be the first thing guests notice.

It also does quiet work — the lit niche holds essentials and doubles as gentle night lighting.

How We Waterproof

A shower is only as good as what’s behind the tile. Every wet zone we build is a sealed system — not a finish.

01

Sub-Guard Boards

Waterproof backer on all shower walls.

02

Liquid Membrane

Brushed over every critical wet-zone surface.

03

MAPEI Tape

Seams, corners & transitions sealed.

04

Pre-Made Base

Sloped waterproof base + linear drain.

Tub-to-Shower Conversion FAQ

How long does a tub-to-shower conversion take?

Most conversions run 11–14 business days from demolition to final cleanup, depending on tile layout and any hidden repairs found after demo.

Do you waterproof behind the tile?

Always. We build a full waterproofing system — Sub-Guard boards, liquid membrane and MAPEI tape on every seam and corner, over a pre-made waterproof base and linear drain.

Can I make the shower bigger without moving walls?

Often yes. By adjusting framing and removing the bulkhead above the old tub, we can frequently reclaim around 4 square feet inside the new shower — confirmed after demo.

Thinking About Losing the Tub?

We handle the demo, plumbing, waterproofing and finishes under one roof — transparent pricing, a 2–5 year workmanship warranty, and a fixed quote before we start. Explore our tub-to-shower conversions.
