From Light-Duty Infrared to a True Finnish Sauna Experience

This basement sauna project replaced an existing light-duty infrared unit
with a fully custom Finnish electric sauna —
rebuilt from scratch around proper insulation, sauna-grade cedar cladding,
a HUUM DROP 9.0kW smart heater,
framed glass enclosure, LED lighting, floor drain, and
ESA code-compliant electrical.

Instead of keeping the limitations of the old infrared system, this project was
rebuilt around what a real sauna needs: 80–100°C operating temperature,
water-on-stones steam, proper ventilation, drainage, and a
material assembly that handles long-term heat and moisture without compromise.

before any construction begins. This allows the client to see the exact layout,
materials, lighting, and finish — and confirm every detail
before a single board is cut.

HUUM DROP Heater

The HUUM DROP 9.0kW was chosen for its large stone capacity,
which produces a softer, longer-lasting steam when water is applied —
the kind of gentle löyly that separates a real Finnish sauna
from a basic electric hot room. WiFi app control lets you
preheat remotely before you get home.

Sauna-Grade Cedar Interior

Sauna-grade clear cedar on all walls and ceiling
with matching benches, backrests, trim, and skirting.
Stainless steel fasteners throughout —
no exposed hot metal surfaces anywhere.

Full Insulation Package

High-temperature rockwool insulation with heat-rated aluminum
foil vapor barrier and a ventilated air gap behind all cladding.
This is the system that allows the sauna to reach and hold
80–100°C efficiently — and protects the structure
from heat and moisture damage over years of use.

Dedicated 240V circuit, smart controller wiring,
permit filing, ESA inspection coordination —
everything done properly so the installation
is safe, insured, and fully up to code.
